I might be signalling scandalous wealth
I'm not wealthy but I can imagine that if you have good money, people would like you more and others would try to take advantage of you.
Contrary to what my bank account is saying, I feel like a pretty wealthy guy in my mind. I’m one of those people who has reconfigured his mind against poverty (at least I hope so) and it’s an amazing feeling. Now, let’s wait for my bank account to catch up.
I’ve been told and have read that for whatever you want to become, you have to start transforming your mind to become it first, then you start to take action, then position yourself for it and eventually it becomes a reality. So I can say I’m on the right track, especially considering what happened to me this week. Na the billions remain.
I knew wealth came with some weird experiences but one thing I wasn’t ready for is for some random ”Joe” thinking the money I believe I have in my mind is a reality and that he can scam me of it. I mean, if he didn’t think I had money, would he have tried to scam me.
Is this how wealthy people feel when they have the kind of money that makes EFCC investigate them and scammers oergreedy people lurk around them.
Wow!
Short storytime
It was past noon (about 12:32) on a busy Monday when I got a text from a lady I would consider a respected “Senior Colleague“. While I was President of AIESEC in Ife (an NGO I was a part of in school), I considered her a voice of wise counsel. Especially considering she used to hold the same role and had notable achievements.
The greeting sounded off and very unlike her but I ran with it. I responded and hoped for a much more reassuring response.
Then it swung into this…
At this point, it started to become weird because this sequence of text can never come from this person. I started to heavily suspect that this person was a scammer and I needed a way to confirm my suspicions. So I decided to bait the nigga..
First of all, 50k is a funny number to try to scam someone off without raising suspicions. I understand the economy is hard and even scammers are trying to “cashout” quickly but I personally feel the amount could have been lower and well distributed to at least instead of raising my suspicion any further.
Unless, he had a sense that I wouldn’t mind parting with that amount. Maybe the black and orange native attire I wore on my status signaled wealth. Maybe he felt “Anyone that’s wearing a pair of UV glasses, definitely had bar.“
I can’t be sure, because I’m not a scammer. But if I was to delude myself into some reason for his confidence I would say he felt it was not a big deal to me.
This is what I’ve decided to believe. And I have taken it as a sign that “The ants are gathering around me, because I have sugar to give“.
You may think I’m overthinking it but the beauty of having a newsletter is that I can choose a perspective and stick with it.

This is not the end of the newsletter but if you have ever been motivated, directed, or helped by a single sentence or paragraph I have written today or in the past, Subscribe for more.
At this point, any response he gives would make it clear that this was off-character for this senior colleague. Because I never helped her with any 20k, neither did I chat with her on IG. So he had to make a choice to either deny or agree to that statement.
This was his response:
It was obvious Mr Samuel Ojo was trying to scam me. He even sent his account number (which was where I got his name from) hoping I would send the money. It was funny at this point and I just needed to decide on how to respond to the brother.
And as a good Christian, advocate for upskilling, and an overall good person (don’t argue with me on that), I attempted to win a soul.
Unfortunately, I don’t think he was interested in what I was offering. Which made me sad, because if He was willing to scam me but was not willing to upskill.
I mean, silver and gold I have not but I could still have sent him Youtube links.
Funny guy…
He went on to try to scam other people from the same organisation using the same format but different account numbers and thankfully he failed woefully because I and one other guy casted him to everyone.
Morale of the story is:
When people start to try to scam you, it may mean 2 things:
You are signalling wealth
The economy is really hard on that person.
Whichever it is, please be careful out there and if you can win a soul while being careful, go for it.
I hope you enjoyed the read. There’s not much lesson here, but I can’t help but wonder if there was someone out there on her contact list who actually fell for this.
Until the next one, bye for now
Cheers.
